Cheap Home Audio - Shelf Systems, Table Top Radios, Boomboxes

Home audio could reference anything that is designed to allow you to play audio inside the comfort of your own home. This includes the radio, CDs, MP3 songs from your MP3 player, songs from your iPod and more. Lets take a look at some of the best home audio systems you can buy.
Home Stereo Shelf Systems: Take a receiver, subwoofer, front and rear speakers and a CD player and pack it into one, sophisticated audio system designed to sit on your shelf or an audio stand. Some can have as much as 500-700 watts or more of total power. If you like your music loud and full of lows, mids and highs, these systems are definitely for you. Listen to the radio or your favorite CD. Have an MP3 player or iPod stuffed with 1000's of songs? Perfect! Directly connect your MP3 player or iPod to the system via the iPod connection or 3.5mm input for MP3 players and you're all set. You'll have a never ending, full of sound, stereo shelf system in your home for many years to come.
Boombox: Although a boombox is designed to be portable, it can also work similar to the systems talked about above. They most likely will not "pump out" the incredible, loud sound, but because you can rest it on your home shelf or take it on a camping trip, the versatility makes them worth it. These can play standard CDs or MP3 CDs with songs burned from your computer on a recordable disc, and of course a radio tuner is included. You're looking at several D size batteries for their power supply, so it's a good idea to buy rechargeable batteries and a charger.
Table Top Radios: These are similar to a shelf system as well, just more compact and take up less space. These could easily be placed in your kitchen, bathroom, bedroom or any other room in your home where you would like to have access to music. These also play CDs that allow for CD/CD-R/RW/MP3/WMA playback. Some table top radios also have the necessary inputs for MP3 players and iPods and come equipped with built-in 3 to 4 inch, high-performance, full-range speakers. Listening to them play your tunes is a delight.
Complete Home Audio Systems: This is where you buy components separately and can achieve "rock star" sound. It all starts with a receiver that can deliver 100 watts or more per channel. How many channels you need depends on how many speakers you want. You can choose a 5.1 or 7.1 home stereo receiver and add a separate CD player and radio tuner, even a cassette player. When it comes to speakers, you can add separate, front tower speakers and rear speakers that can even be mounted in walls or ceilings, surround sound speakers and a powered subwoofer to handle all of the bass. You can really go as extreme as you'd like. If you want an incredible home audio system, spending more cash and buying components separately is the way to go.

My Home Audio Equipment Throughout The Years

When I was younger, even though we didn't have that much money, we still had a nice home audio system. This was the early nineties and CDs still had different quality levels of digital recording. My father played Bach loudly on his home audio equipment, and sometimes he mixed in rock 'n' roll. I didn't like the classical music at first, although today I love it.
Growing up, music was important. By the time I was buying my own CDs, my room was a haven. I had my own bathroom, a big bed, colorful lighting and a stereo with a remote control I used whenever there were commercials on the radio or a song came on I didn't like. It wasn't the best home audio system but it worked for me. Then we moved and my stereo became fuzzy and broken with age. I inherited my father's home audio equipment with its still-powerful Japanese speakers and slick black design.
I listened to music loudly during my teenage years, as do most teenagers, but then the iPod came out. This was a different beast. Music was no longer on discs, it was on computer files. So are you telling me I have to convert all my CDs onto my computer? Fine. Ever since then it has been less about buying albums and more about downloading tracks. I still value and treasure my home audio system, but instead of the individual player and receiver I had when I was in high school, I use my computer as my dock. I've invested in nice speakers still, so I have good home audio speakers, but I no longer listen to the radio. What about music in the future?
I want to be able to plug in an iPod or whatever music device I have to a wall in my home and have my home audio speakers blast it throughout the house, according to which rooms I allow it. Same goes for the car. There will be a music subscription service that plays whatever music you want, while also having access to your personal collection, and you will be able to bump it over your automotive electronics. This may take ten years or so but the future will be glorious when it comes. If there's anything I was taught while growing up, it's that music is powerful. It can make you feel better when you're having a tough time, and there's always something to match what you're doing. That's why it's important to invest in it and reap the benefits for years.

Home Audio System

It's a secret to no one that we live in the era of a fast developing technology. At present we use dozens of home gadgets every day. We take advantage of micro ovens, toasters, vacuum cleaners, DVDs, cell phones, etc; I can continue to name different gadgets for at least half an hour. Some of these gadgets make our life easier and more comfortable, like mobile phones, for instance; some of them save us a lot of time that we can spend on doing more pleasant things (I mean washing machines, vacuum cleaners, toasters and so on); but some of them have been created to entertain people and to make their lives more joyous, for example TV sets, DVDs and home speaker theater systems.
I spend a great deal of my spare time in front of my laptop and watching a TV set, I use micro oven every day and every evening I turn on my new home audio system that I received several weeks ago for my birthday.
I have an audio system that is made for an iPod. It's a bit big, but it doesn't matter for me, because I have quite a large room and enough space to allow myself to have such an audio system. There's also a USB port so I can charge and/or sync my iPod from it (it's a great advantage for me). You can connect other devices to it, as well, but not an iPhone, it doesn't work with iPhones, because it wasn't made for that.
My audio system is grey and black; it is almost all metal, with thick plastic mounting brackets for the two speakers. The separately packed tower speakers connect to the system with a special connector. With a small twist, the home audio system speakers are steadily in place. The modern floor-standing design may not appeal to some, but I really adore the minimalist approach to its chassis.

Simple Audio Secrets - Setting Up Your Home Audio Production Studio

Audio education production is a phrase that can be looked at in two ways. Let me explain what I mean:
  1. Audio education production can be a way of describing how to implement audio in the production of education video.
  2. Audio education production can be a way of producing videos that focus on the education methodology that focuses on techniques that are best for people who learn through listening.
There are different ways of learning including visual, verbal, physical, and aural. Some people learn better and faster with aural teaching. Others learn and retain more when they can use several senses at the same time. What this means is that when you are producing a video, you need to consider both the end-user and how important your audio is to this listener. As for education on how to best use audio in video production, do not overlook the importance of using good equipment and the right words. You would think twice about creating a website to sell your products with cheesy looking graphics. You should be just as careful about educating yourself on the proper methods of getting the best voice over on your video.
What, you ask, do I have to do to gear up for audio education for video production? Here are some guidelines that offer a good starting place.
Some people just do not have the voice for audio production. Tape your own voice and listen to it. While we tend to be critical of our own voice, try to be objective. Do you speak clearly? If you are not sure, ask someone else to listen to it and give you feedback on whether they can understand what you are saying.
If your voice passes the grade, the next step is to use the best microphone you can afford. Even if your voice is perfect, cracks and snaps and burbles will not make the listening experience pleasant.
The voice is okay. The microphone is okay. The next step is to make sure that the message delivered is crisp, clear, and concise. The best voice and the best sound will not compensate for a rambling voice on your video.
If you get the first type of audio education mastered, your videos will be able to deliver the kind of audio needed for the second type of audio education.

How To Repair Compaq 17" LCD Monitor

The complaint of this 17" Compaq LCD Monitor was shutdown after few seconds to few minutes. That means the display sometime will shutdown in few seconds while sometime it will shutdown in couple of minutes. When there is a display the picture worked perfectly good until it shutdown. The first thing one would normally suspect is the defective backlight. For your information, a bad or a weak backlight can cause such problem and dry joints may also contribute to the cause of the fault.
Since I have a spare backlight, I swapped the LCD backlight with the working one. It is easy to do it, just remove the existing backlight connector and connect the good backlight connector to it. I have tested one by one the backlight and the result was the LCD Monitor still shutdown intermittently. This has proved both of the LCD Monitor backlights are okay! So now my concentration is looking for any dry joints in the LCD Monitor.
I put back all the internal metal casing like original except the main cover and switch "ON" the LCD Monitor. While at my left hand holding the LCD Monitor, my right hand holding the shaft of the screw driver, I began to gently knock on the LCD Monitor internal metal casing with the handle of the screw driver. The moment I 'hit' it, the LCD Monitor went straight into shutdown. Wow! From the test I believe you would have known what is the cause of the LCD shutdown-it was dry joint.
Opening up the casing again, you can clearly see three boards i.e. the power/inverter board, audio board and the Main board. I only suspect the power/inverter board because this is the board that controls the backlights. What I did was resoldered all the components in the inverter area except the SMD components because SMD components rarely have dry joints.
When I power "On" the LCD Monitor and hit it with the handle of the screw driver, the Monitor again went into shutdown. I told myself "it can't be" but anyway I have a very high confident that the fault must be in the inverter area and not in Main board or power board. Next, I carefully hold the LCD panel and use a test pen to lift up the corner of the inverter board and power "On" the Monitor. Guess what happen? The Monitor did not shut down even though I 'hit' a little bit hard on the metal casing. This again proved that the problem is somewhere in the inverter area.
I opened up again the metal casing and carefully scanned through all of the components in the inverter area-it look like I have already applied fresh solder to it. It was only the feedback circuit that have SMD components that I haven't solder. I used a magnifier glass to check if there are any dry joints in all of the feedback components but I don't see any. I went ahead to resolder all of the SMD components in the feedback circuit and power "On" the Monitor. To my surprised, the LCD Monitor no more shutting down no matter which way or how I tapped the LCD Monitor with the handle of the screwdriver. I put the LCD Monitor for many hours of burn in test and it just worked great. I have sent back the LCD Monitor to my customer and till now after couples of days there is no call from my customer.
Conclusion - Do not overlooks the dry joints in SMD components. Every part in the electronic board can be a suspect. Hope from this article you can get some ideas about solving intermittent problem in LCD Monitor.

Home Audio Speakerss s

Sound, also perceived as the sense of hearing, is an integral part of our lives. Without the ability to hear or reproduce sound we are not complete. Sound is the vibrations that travel through air and can be sensed by our ears. Thus it is a medium of communication. It is used to gather information and knowledge about properties of the environment surrounding us. Sound can travel through air, water, and solids. These help sound waves travel and are known as medium. In normal conditions, human can hear a varied frequency range. But, sometimes we need to amplify the sound output for better quality of hearing. This requires the help of speakers.
Speakers are devices, which convert electromagnetic signals into sound vibrations. Thus speakers are machines that enable us to hear sounds, which have their origin somewhere else. Speakers, also termed as loudspeakers are attached to an audio system, which provides the electromagnetic signals that are then reproduced in the wavelength, which humans can decipher. The loudspeaker is the most variable element in an audio system, and is responsible for marked audible differences between systems. s
Home audio systems have come a long way since their inception as just another loudspeaker system. They have become a part and parcel of our every day lives. Today, many versions of home audio systems have evolved into our homes. Technological enhancements have made sure that we can take our audio or sound system wherever we go. As speaker systems are the most important part in the output of sound, they have evolved greatly. Many versions of speaker systems are available in the market today. Depending upon your choice of price and your perception of quality, you can opt for the one that best caters to your requirements.
Speakers are an integral part of any audio system, be it a simple radio or a home theatre system. Home audio speakers are generally multi-drive systems, i.e. they contain two or more drive units. These include woofers, midranges, tweeters, and sometimes horns or super tweeters. A home theatre system is complete only if all the above mentioned add-ons are attached with it to give a theatre-like sound experience. In home audio speaker specifications, the speakers are classified as "N-way" speakers. It indicates the number of bands of different frequency into which the system divides the sound. A 2-way system consists of woofers and tweeters, a 3-way system consists of mid-range speakers with a combination of woofers and tweeters. It depends upon person to person; rather there exists different perceptions towards the quality of sound and thus the drives in a speaker.
If and when you decide upon purchasing a home audio speaker system, you will be spoilt for choice. They come in various ranges of quality and pricing, thus you need to decide carefully what caters to your specific set of requirements. Good audio companies make available a host of choices for speaker systems that can gel with your audio systems. They also provide different designs and creations of speakers that fit into your décor. You can place your systems in such a way that it gives you the optimum output.

The Power of One Album on a Home Audio System

There is one album that is very special to me. It doesn't matter what it is. But whenever I play it on my pro audio equipment or on my home audio system it all comes back to me, feeling the love and desire while I first played one of the songs on my guitar for my first love, then the soft longing I had in her absence when we parted for the summer, the confidence that we would see each other again soon and resume our happiness, then months later the disillusionment I felt while driving through the shrubby brown hills of West Texas on my way back to school and the understanding that maybe she and I weren't meant to be together, and worse, that everything we had lived together before was just passing the time, and that isn't that what life is - a giant collection of moments we have to pass as peacefully and blissfully as possible - and then the later memories, of how I played the album and that song again and again months and years later, after the pain had worn off, and those very feelings I first enjoyed became suffused in nostalgia with the richness of time.
And today, being able to reflect on all those feelings I no longer even feel them when I play the album on my home audio system, but rather a collection of them tied to the album itself, so that it's the memory of the album holding good memories that I find enjoyable when I'm not actually listening to the deliciously beautiful and melodic songs. The album's a little more than half an hour long and yet ironically it holds years of my life, which ordinarily I don't have access to in anything more than flashes and bursts of memories, little snatches of images of her face, and looking out on the road, and feeling sweetly melancholy and alone, and all the realizations from that period of my life being truer than anything I've ever known since.
All that from a single album played off a home audio system. I'm almost afraid that the more I listen to it, the more present memories I'll imbue it with, which will cancel out the old ones, and so I'm reticent to listen to it on repeat the way I used to while I first explored the intricacies of its steel guitar and syncopated cowbell.s

Home Audio Speaker Placement - Better Performance Through Better Design

Whether investing a large amount of your savings or a small part of your budget on your home theater, your speaker placement will play a big role in the sound quality and sonic performance in your home theater room.
The instructions that come with your speakers will give you recommendation for where to place them within a room but below are a few things to consider as you begin setting up your new home theater speakers.
CENTER CHANNEL SPEAKER
This speaker's main purpose is to anchor sounds on-screen, like dialogue.
Tips for placement of the center channel speaker:
1. Center it directly above or below your television.
2. If you place it above the television, the front edge of the speaker should line up precisely with the front edge of the television. This will cut down on any kind of sound "bouncing around" inside the television cabinet.
3. The tweeter of this particular speaker should be at the same height as the tweeters of the front speakers. If you can accomplish this to within 24 inches, that will allow for the best sound quality.
4. The front speakers and this particular speaker should be spaced the same distance away from your planned listening position.
FRONT SPEAKERS: BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT
These speakers have two distinct purposes. They reproduce stereo music sound while also handling a movie's soundtrack.
Tips for placement of the front speakers:
1. Find your optimal listening position. Now space the two front speakers at points in the room that are equal is distance to that position, with one to the left and one to the right. The front right, front left and center channel speakers should all be approximately the same distance from where you are sitting, with the tweeters of each directed at your ears. Don't just eyeball this and get an approximate distance, as even an inch variation in the distance of the speakers can make a noticeable difference in your home audio system's sound quality.
2. These speakers' tweeters should be even to your ear level when seated in the optimal listening position. Smaller home theater speakers can be mounted on the wall or placed on a speaker stand. Floor standing speakers normally have this covered in their design.
SURROUND SPEAKERS
The purpose of the surround speakers is to provide low and high level sound from other parts of the room, creating a movie theater feel in your home theater. The surround speaker placement will depend on the size of your home theater, the shape of the room, and the space needed for the actual speakers. Be creative and experiment with the placement of these particular speakers throughout the room.
Tips for placement of the surround speakers:
1. Place the primary pair to the right and to the left of your optimal listening position. This can be done in line with your position or just behind it. When placement to the side is impossible, or when you have a surround system with more than two surround speakers, you may wish to place the speakers behind the listening position, with the sound being directed toward the front of the room.
2. These speakers should be placed at approximately ear level when you are in a standing position.
3. Experiment with the aiming of these speakers when mounted on the walls. Sometimes good results can be achieved when you point them up at the ceiling or back at the rear corners of the room.
SUBWOOFER
A home theater subwoofer provides your home audio system with all the low bass frequencies needed for a movie theater, surround sound experience. However, it is one of the least difficult to position. In most cases, you can position your home theater subwoofer anywhere in your home theater and still get good results.
There is no one "perfect" placement for any given home theater speaker. No two rooms' acoustics will be the same, all speakers will have various sonic characteristics, and no two ears will hear any given sound identically. This doesn't mean you will never achieve the best sound quality from your home audio system. All it means is take the advice given and modify it when you actually install your home theater speakers to accommodate your specific needs.

How Much Should You Be Spending For High End Home Audio Speakers?

Music is something that is a part of everyone's lives. For this reason, it is essential you have a set of high end home audio speakers to place somewhere in the house. As oppose to wasting $50 away, you are much better off spending the money to get quality speakers. But how much do you really need to take advantage of high end speakers?
As with anything, this answer is going to vary as every company, model and brand differs. You may be able to find a similar product from a less known company for far less than you would from a well known brand. The risk you take is spending money on a product that may very well break on you in a few months.
With that said, your best bet is to shop around and price compare online. If you really want to go all out and purchase high end home audio speakers to the extreme, KEF has a number of different models that are around $2,000. Features like the Tangerine waveguide provide you with smoother and clearer high frequency responses so you get the best results.
If you are not looking to spend quite that much, Polk is another brand to look into. This brand offers bookshelf speakers between $600 and $1,000 on average. There are countless features that make this brand more than worth the price including the dual driver and ring tweeter which is hard to find in speakers at this price.
The last level of high end home audio speakers to take a look at is Canton. Canton offers products that vary from $300 to $600 allowing you to save money while still dispersing quality sound throughout your home. If you are going to listen to music you might as well do it the right way.

Pro Audio Speakers For the Price of a Home Consumer Stereo Speaker Set - How to Achieve This

Quality audio equipment is a highly subjective. Many individuals will have an opinion that varies from the next person of where to find good to high quality audio speakers. Some will almost always default to the local brick and mortar electronics super chain. The average consumer may be willing to settle for this solution not knowing the truth.
There are many brand names throughout the pro-audio speaker world. Some manufacturers have even attempted to carry over their name to the home audio enthusiast, sometimes without sacrificing good quality. Many times, however, the home audio speakers available at the electronics store are constructed with cheap quality parts. Frequently this allows the retailer to advertise the products as a best buy with deep discounts.
There are excellent alternatives to relying on the local retailers. Shopping on the web can yield several advantages. The first step in purchasing an excellent set of audio speakers is to write down the intended environment for which the speakers will be used. Certain materials and speaker specifications may create exceptional sound in a dance club, but be unsuitable in a residential setting.
It is recommended, especially for aspiring bands or disc jockeys, to actually build their own custom audio drivers. Although this may sound intimidating at first, with patience and attention to detail, the average individual can craft a superior speaker set. Of course other factors go into the sound being produced such as the quality of the source and the amplifier.
For those individuals new to the world of speaker repair or speaker kit building there are several good books at the local bookstore which can provide a wealth of information without inundating the reader with overly technical jargon. Many of these same books will have the plans for designing and building the speaker enclosure. The design of the speaker box and materials will have a direct impact on the ability of the speaker to produce rich and full sound in addition to the construction of the speaker itself.
For those do-it-yourself novices and even those who are experienced, many online retailers that specialize in speaker repair kits or individual speaker components are a good resource with which to consult. Frequently the representatives at the online retailer have practical speaker building experience to share with the customer. As competitive as the retail market can be, better service and information can be had from online speaker specialists than what is available from a clerk at the brick and mortar stores.

Home Audio Equipment - First Things First - Start Right to End Righ

OK, you finally are getting what you have wanted for a long time. It seems like you are the last family to get one of the newest toys for the 21st century, your very own personal home theater system. Now you have the important task of choosing just the right system that will please both the adults and the kids in your house. After all, you do not really think you can keep the system all for yourself do you? Before you go off and start looking at all the equipment options, the first thing to decide is where you are going to set the system. And, you want the system to blend in to your setting. Is the system going to be in a family room type of installation, or is it going to be in a more formal room, like the traditional living room?
Room With A View
The room for the placement is important because the style of the system should match the style of the room. If your placement is in a more formal room, the style of the components might be more contemporary or modern, with smaller size speakers that are less conspicuous. You may choose a more European style with metal finishing as an example.
The more informal setting of the average family room may allow for traditional tower speakers and additional surround sound speakers. And, the basic black cabinets would probably fit here better than in the formal living room. And, it is possible that the overall volume of sound may be more acceptably loud in the informal nature of your family room. Therefore, larger, more powerful speakers could be used. Video games and the like are more fun at higher volume levels, even if the parents are reluctant to let that happen.
Where, O Where?
Once the style of the system is decided, it is time to consider the placement of the components in the room. First, is there more than one way for your furniture to be placed in the room? Then, assuming the furniture is in place, visualize your speakers and components where you think you want them. It may be that space is limited, which would mean that you need smaller, more compact speakers. Or, you may have other considerations, like traffic flow, and room use, that requires you to set the room a certain way.
The basic rule for speaker placement is to get juxtaposed, not complete overlap, between sound zones. For the best surround sound effect, you do need to place speakers some distance apart, and try to get some directional isolation of each speaker output. You want to achieve enough separation to enjoy the sound effects that TV shows and movies design for home theater use.

Enhancing Your Home Theater: Projector Basics

Seeing movies on the big screen is one of the main reasons why going to the theater is so great, but trying to bring that big screen experience home can get very expensive. Just to get a 60-inch 3D television, can cost easily $2500 and up. So what can you do to recreate that big screen experience at home? A home movie projector and screen is the perfect answer.
The first thing that you want to look at when trying to get that big screen experience is the projector. There are many projectors out there, but the first thing to consider is the lumens of the device. The lumens have to deal with how brightly the projector can display the image on the screen. The higher the number, the brighter the picture you can expect.
The reason why this is significant is that if you get a cheap projector with low lumens, you will have to have the room extremely dark in order to see a decent picture, which can make daytime movie viewing difficult, if not impossible unless you can blackout the room. A projector with 2500 lumens and up will produce a good solid bright image.
The second thing you need to consider is the contrast ratio. This is the difference between the blackest blacks and the whitest whites, which is important in order to get a crisp picture. Therefore, as with most things the bigger the number, the better the picture results you will be able to expect. Anything around 3000:1 (pronounced 3000 to 1) and up is a good contrast ratio for a projector.
The next thing you want to check for are the connections that the projector has, like HDMI, component cable, composite cable, computer monitor cable, etc. This is important because if you want to connect multiple content producing devices to your projector, you will have enough connections to do the job.
The next thing is the sound of the projector. Most projectors do not have good quality sound so make sure you get a projector that has at least two different video and audio connections. For example, if you get a projector that has an HDMI connection and a composite connection, you can use the HDMI connection for the video, press mute on the projector and use the component to connect to your surround sound system, or other external speakers.
The last thing that you need to complete this home theater system is a projector screen. There are two types of screens, ones that use a tripod, and ones that you pull down. Some of the pull down projectors have a motor so that you can use a remote to raise and lower the screen. Projector screens can cost about $300 for a 150 inch on Amazon.com but there are cheaper ones.
Therefore, with a decent projector costing $500 to $600, and the screen costing about $300, you can create a nice home theater viewing experience for about $900 to $1000, which is much cheaper than the $2500 to $3000 and beyond it would cost to buy a 60 to 65 inch LED television.
A projector based home theater is definitely not for people who have many space constraints, but is a good choice for someone looking to enhance their home theater and has the space to do it.
