Home Audio Systems and Room Acoustics

Before you just dive into buying the coolest-looking home theater equipment you find in the store, you need to think about how it is going to hold up in your room. Every room has a different set of acoustics, depending on the size, the material of the walls, the doorways and space and a lot of other smaller details. You need to understand, as best you can, the acoustics of your living room, den, or wherever else you'll be putting your home audio system.
There are two categories that you need to think about. The first is room resonances. Room resonances are sound waves generated by the speakers. They can be anywhere from 20Hz (hertz) to 300Hz. The frequencies are based on the length, height, and width of the room you are listening in. Room resonances cause either a reinforcement of bass or just the opposite. It usually results in either bass that is too heavy and muddled or the opposite, a bass that is far too weak. Most rooms will have a good bass at about 50 to 70Hz. There are plenty of tools online you can use to calculate the resonance in your room.
From there you can fix the issue by making sure you have proper speaker placement. This should keep the bass at a decent level, but if you are still having problems you may want to use bass traps, which absorb bass frequencies. They are perfect when the bass seems to be coming in just a little too heavy.
So now that you've figured out resonances regarding your home audio system, you need to look into room reflections. Reflections are the sound waves that cause sound to seem off, like when the tone of a song doesn't sound exactly right. Or maybe the pitch of the voice sounds weird. Finding the reflection points is as easy as holding a mirror up in the room as you sit where you normally would listen or watch television. Move the mirror around until you get a full reflection of the speaker and that is the reflection spot. Reflection can be dealt with by installing absorbers and diffuser. If you put them in the correct locations, you'll hear more of the speakers and less of the room around you.
Taking the time to make these upgrades is probably the best thing you'll do for your home audio system. What good is having a huge system if you aren't getting the quality of sound you deserve out of it? Taking the time to figure out reflections and resonances will make a huge difference the next time you watch your favorite action movie.----

The Power of One Album on a Home Audio System

There is one album that is very special to me. It doesn't matter what it is. But whenever I play it on my pro audio equipment or on my home audio system it all comes back to me, feeling the love and desire while I first played one of the songs on my guitar for my first love, then the soft longing I had in her absence when we parted for the summer, the confidence that we would see each other again soon and resume our happiness, then months later the disillusionment I felt while driving through the shrubby brown hills of West Texas on my way back to school and the understanding that maybe she and I weren't meant to be together, and worse, that everything we had lived together before was just passing the time, and that isn't that what life is - a giant collection of moments we have to pass as peacefully and blissfully as possible - and then the later memories, of how I played the album and that song again and again months and years later, after the pain had worn off, and those very feelings I first enjoyed became suffused in nostalgia with the richness of time.
And today, being able to reflect on all those feelings I no longer even feel them when I play the album on my home audio system, but rather a collection of them tied to the album itself, so that it's the memory of the album holding good memories that I find enjoyable when I'm not actually listening to the deliciously beautiful and melodic songs. The album's a little more than half an hour long and yet ironically it holds years of my life, which ordinarily I don't have access to in anything more than flashes and bursts of memories, little snatches of images of her face, and looking out on the road, and feeling sweetly melancholy and alone, and all the realizations from that period of my life being truer than anything I've ever known since.
All that from a single album played off a home audio system. I'm almost afraid that the more I listen to it, the more present memories I'll imbue it with, which will cancel out the old ones, and so I'm reticent to listen to it on repeat the way I used to while I first explored the intricacies of its steel guitar and syncopated cowbell.

20th and 21st Century Music On Your Home Audio System

After seeing the Broadway musical, Million Dollar Quartet, my uncle and I were talking about the Johnny Cash music that blared from his home theater equipment. He mentioned that part of the musical explosion of the 20th century came from the new sound recording technologies available. I added that it was also due to the turbulent cultural changes sweeping the nation as it assumed the role of leader of the free world after the Second World War. He agreed, and said that it was akin to the dominance of the Austro-Hungarian Empire of Mozart's time, or the power of England during Elizabeth I's long reign that allowed of Shakespeare's. Whatever was the reason for the rise of these geniuses, we decided, we won't soon hear the same kind of musical explosion for quite some time.
From Hank Williams' early death at 29 in 1953 to Michael Jackson's in 2009 popular music as a genre was invented, along with rap and hip-hop, rock n roll, electronic, and the dozens of other subgenres that came from the blues and folk music. Once Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney go, that's it. The end of an era.
But what about the internet, I asked. "Isn't the Information Revolution going to spawn its own culture of excellence?" "It very well may," he responded, as the Cash switched to Elvis, "although it's hard to imagine that it will continue in the music we listen to on our home audio systems." I began to think and puzzle over what Uncle Jack was getting at. He said, "You see, now that the internet exists, it's easier than ever to record and distribute music, and so there's not as much money in finding the most talented musicians and signing them to a record deal—they can sign themselves and spread the word. " "I dunno Uncle Jack," shouldn't that mean that there's a better chance to hear your music played over any random person's home audio system," I said. To which he replied, "Sure, but the thing is it's harder to make money doing it, and so that makes fewer people want to get really good at it." "Maybe you have a point," I said, "I guess we'll have to wait and see."
And so we must. As in all of the arts there's a bell curve of success. Maybe Uncle Jack is right, maybe the bell curve just got a lot deeper because of the internet. But that doesn't mean that the very best artists and musicians won't eventually be able to climb up and find their way onto our home audio equipment.

Home Audio Speakers: Time To Revamp Your Home Theater System

Today’s Audio speakers from home-theaters are not only of high quality fidelity and a raft of features, it also provides 3D sound effect. A new technique known as psychoacoustics will create an illusion of sound movement and is enough to fool your ears even just with two speakers.
These audio speakers come superb surround sound and will keep all the glass panes in your room shaking. Past audio speakers used to come with AM radio like sound. Of course it is a huge upgrade if you didn’t revamp your home theater sound system in three years or so.
The wireless speakers
Wireless speakers are no longer a pinnacle as it used to be a few years ago, however they are still new when it comes to a home theater system. Earlier people used to buy wireless speakers for fashion purpose. The sound quality wasn’t good at all, the only positive thing about the wireless speakers were that they were fancy. The prices were high too. Now the days have changed. The prices of wireless speakers have decreased considerably and the quality has increased. The psychoacoustics is available with wireless speakers too.
When we use home theaters, we tend to spread out speakers in every corner of the room. This gives us a real theatrical experience. But with all the wires spread here and there, it becomes such an ugly sight. Wireless speakers completely remove this disadvantage.
The Quality you paid for
As the prices of the home speakers come down, the good old saying “you get what you paid for” comes true. The ridiculous prices have gone down and the habit of consistently low quality speakers has changed. Now you get the value that you are looking for in every range of home Audio Speakers.
Find the right speaker
Finding the right speaker for your home theater will be a very difficult task. You have to spend hours researching the best ones. Most of the stores come with fake promises, do take in the warranties into consideration. The best ones always come in limited edition. Stay updated, subscribe to the newsletter of the electronics selling companies. Call them and ask them to notify you as soon as those limited edition products are available.
Save money
If you have bought a speaker recently and then suddenly there is a new speaker in the market, you will definitely not throw your hard earned cash on it. There are stores like Walmart, who provide exchange offers. Exchange your old speakers with the new ones for a little cash and enjoy yourself up-to date with the best speakers in the market.
A few years ago, it was a difficult approach to get the best speakers available, but now, in the days of interactive internet, you can research for your desired speaker in Google then land on your decision within an hour. The forums will come handy too.
If you haven’t revamped the speakers of your home theater system lately, then with all the new technology flourishing into the market, it is definitely a good time to think about spending green cash on a worthwhile path.
